RunNC2008

A 740 mile run across the state of NC to raise money in the fight against cancer

I lay here with bags of ice laced across my legs, six, one gallon bags to be precise. This is par for the course of each day out here while we venture across our beautiful state. After the first 20-30 minute icing (or as long as possible) we will go eat. We are all clean and presentable to restaurants of course :-) I ususally eat something on par of two meals at dinner. Later, on the good advice of friends, (Amanda and Jay) I drink an Ensure at night maybe even a beer too (but don't tell). Sometimes we stop to pick up the "needed" items on the way back to the hotel or homestay. This is usually somewhere around 7:45 or 8. Then it is back to the ice for another two or three hours. Before bed, which has been pretty late sometimes I take an Epson Salt bath for at 20 minutes and stretch immediately following. Routine/management this the only way through this for me. Rebirth of the legs so far seems magically to be there the next day by this focusing on the weak points of joints, skin, feet. You must preserve by protecting your weakest points. We must not overlook the tummy either. You must eat but you must eat foods that work for you and keep you going without bothering you. Of course there is more to tell about the management of rebirth; this is part of the physical rebirth.
What of our souls, our being, our spirit? I don't mind too much what you call it, I care more for us to talk about it and learn from one another. We, myself and all the wonderful family and friends, are making this road become a journied path. We are engaged in details, but what we have left unsaid thus far is "the little breath of life" that we provide for one another. It is the interaction, the participation in the unspoken yet identified life giving moment where will, freedom, and fate create this spoken life. For me, I have always been motivated most by this sort of interaction in dreams and visions that seek possibility for a different being. To participate in a community that seeks the greatness of human possibility is to seek truth and the meaning of life. So my soul yearns to act with others in the imperfect road that creates this "path".
This is our path to passion: hope. It is our weakest and our strongest power. It is created of ourselves and of others.
Tomorrow will come. The road is laid before us. It is 48 miles. But our path will unfold when WE move along this road with one another. We will see homes and hills, we will hear barkings dogs and horns. We will smell the winds of soft rains and fertilizer. We will taste gnats and sweat. I feel hope and love.

You are getting into more familiar territory for me now. I do wish the weather were kinder to you. Lots of liquids. Those salt soaks sound blissful. And lots of calories. I told Mindy that the Stephen Ministers of Chapel in the Pines will be bringing you dinner Sunday night. Big portions, right? Scott, you are amazing!

A few words to make you smile: Jeremiah & Scott and their traveling pillows, Paris and her pineapple, Michael & Cartman, gnats in your teeth your hairs (legs, chest and yes the long locks on your head). Watching your fat friend (me) try to run and bike a few miles. Thanks for the adventure
