We had family day for the run today with a journey from Elm City to eight miles shy of Washington. Tyler listened to stories and yelled "love you dad" and Mindy put up with me. I must admit the heat and the miles are catching up with me. Though I had energy to run, my feet screamed from running on fire black roads and hot sand. We once again had a little detour adding another 1.5 miles to the end result with a total of 50 miles ending at 4:50PM.
Once again we rolled through farm lands as we have since Taylorsville. Probably less dairy farms now and more tobacco, straw fields, and corn. With few stores on the way some things become a little difficult, but we always seem to find something to resolve challenges. I must admit the excitement of running over 600 miles during the day tomorrow is pretty exciting. It seems flipant to say we only have three days left. Can we "manage" the weaknesses of my body? With a dropping temperature, it seems safe to say that the heat is over, but 150 miles remaining is not a light task even if we can taste the end. Les Chaffin has joined the family adding support help and company for me in the remaining miles. We will take one day at a time, one step at time, and focus on what needs to be done.
